Waiting on the rain

Alas, more indoor photos.  But at least this time I have a real excuse, the rain.  Greensboro was lambasted by storm clouds for the better part of today.  But I was not too upset over it, there is something chic about adding an umbrella to an ensemble.  Today's outfit was inspired by the glamorous and voluptuous Joan Holloway (Christina Hendricks) from Mad Men.  If I could pick any wardrobe,it would have to be hers.   There is something about the style of the 1960s that I just love.  From the cinched in waists, full skirts, glittering jewels, to even the over the top hairstyles.

These Mad Men Barbie dolls are adorable.  Check out this blog to see more shots of different characters. Hope everyone has found a nice place to dry off from this overcast, damp Wednesday!

Inspired by: Engagement Photos

It should come as no surprise that I'm no where near close to getting married or even an engagement.  There has to be two parties involved for that kind of shabang.  But that has not stopped me from creating an album filled with both engagement and wedding photos I find online.  So when the day does come..I'll be ready!  I came across the cutest set of engagement photos on a blog called you can't be serious and thought I'd share a few with you. Enjoy!

Janet and Darrell look like the cutest couple and I'm sure they had a blast posing in these large animal heads.

Cold Front

Today was wonderful, I think fall is finally making its way to Greensboro.  I love everything about chilly weather fashion from the tights, boots, scarfs, jackets, sweaters, gloves, ah the options are endless!  Anyway, this outfit is kind of like a mullet: business on the top and party on the bottom, they are teal shorts after-all. My sister picked out the lovely cameo pin and earrings set at an estate sale for me.  I'm always wondering who the girl is modeled after. Hope everyone enjoys their weekend! Happy Friday!

13 Songs for September 13th

Here is a playlist for you to enjoy on your Tuesday afternoon.  It's a mix of old and new, happy and sad and even a little bit of family (meaning my sister's amazing band, The Ethnographers.)
Hope you enjoy! Now I've got to get back to studying for my exam!

Corduroy & Florals

So it's the beginning of the week and instead of getting off to a good start by studying for my exam on Wednesday, I've been watching a show nonstop on Netflix...oops.  Anyways here is another piece of my apartment.  Are these chairs the most amazing thing or what? I saw them at a consignment store and knew they had to be mine...but they were a little out of my price range.  So I went back with my sister about a month later and she was able to hackle the owner down another $20.

So I would really like to start taking pictures outside, but I feel so awkward with my tripod because of my neighbors.  Maybe I need to make a friend with a talent for picture-taking. Because mine is below par anyways.  Also look at the elephant shoes!

Sluts Unite!

Over the weekend I took part in SlutWalk Greensboro.  What is a SlutWalk you might ask?  Well in Toronto, on January 24th, 2011 some dick of a cop gave his view of sexual assault by stating, "women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimized."  Needless to say a few people were kinda pissed off, so over 3,000 people came together and marched to the front door of the Toronto Police Station on April 3rd, 2011.  Thanks to the internet this movement has taken over, with marches going on in major cities in the US, Europe, Asia, and Australia.  You can read more about it here , here and here .  It felt wonderful to be a part of such an important cause, not to mention making the signs was fun as well.  If you hear about a SlutWalk in your city you should definitely partake!

A peek in the new kitchen

This weeks outfit post takes place in my kitchen, which is the place where I store my Nutella.  I'll be sharing more of my new home later on.  I think I'm finally getting into a steady routine, I have my classes, I joined a sewing/design organization, I'm meeting new people, and I'm even going to the gym.  Hello Zumba (aka my new favorite way to work off all the Nutella I consume).

shoes: Kmart
skirt: AB surf shop
stripe tank: "borrowed" from sister
sweater: thrift store

Inspired by: Bambi

There is something so breathtaking about Disney concept art.  I find myself more attracted to the before pieces then the final clean product.  I love the rawness and use of color in each of these pieces and would happily hang all of them in my apartment.  I wonder if anyone would be the wiser that they were inspiration for Bambi in 1942.

All painted by Tyrus Wong.

I have also been thinking about getting my first tattoo, which I may want to be of Bambi.  Now I just have to find the courage and extra cash.

Holiday in Germany

Yesterday I returned from a two week vacation to Germany.  And it was incredible! I was extremely sad to leave the friend I was visiting, my new friends, the beautiful sights, and even the language barrier.  I saw so many amazing things and experienced both new and old life changing events...and have over 600 pictures to prove it. Here are just a few to share with you! Maybe I'll add more along the way.

Red, white, and blue equals America.

So my 4th of July was spent in typical American-style with my parents, my two sisters and their boyfriends, my sister's friend, a Belarusian, friends from where I used to live, and finally lots of delicious food.  It's been busy and crowded but really delightful.  I hope everyone else had an explosive 4th of July, and managed to keep the firework injuries to a minimum.  Go America!

And on a side note...I made the top I'm wearing and the polka-dot dress my sister is sporting.
