While its not quite cold enough to wear boots, I figured that because it had rained all day I could get away with it.  Where is fall? My sweaters, tights, and scarves have been calling my name since the start of September.  In exciting news I'm going to California in about a week for my fall break, I'll be visiting my cousin and hopefully exploring San Francisco!

**Also, I got a 94 on my first Environmental Biology exam :D

Flowers & Rain

On Thursday I decided to take a spontanious trip to Greensboros to take a tour of UNCG, where I'm thinking about attending next fall. The campus is lovely, and I hope they will accept my application.  I'm really excited to transfer, community college has been great but I feel its lacking in the areas I'm interested in [I mean I can't even take French, let alone anything to do with Fashion Design].  UNCG has an amazing history.  It was founded as a women's college in 1891 by Charles Duncan McIver, who was a crusader for the cause of women's education.  He thought, "If you educate a man you educate an individual, but if you educate a woman you educate a family."

Veggie Burgers&Sweet Potato Fries

My New Year's resolution for 2010 was to give up eating all "land meat" ie. chicken, pork, beef, lamb, rabbit, etc (I still eat any kind of seafood, but I try and limit myself to that about 1 to 2 times a week).  And since that is still in full effect and I plan to keep it that way, my new diet has forced me to search for new methods of protein.

One of my favorite sources are beans [eaten in limited quantities of course]  Anything from lima, edamame, soy, black, lentils, and garbanzo are all equally delicious.  Black beans are perfect for making veggie burgers.  They are super healthy and easy to make.  Try making them at home, and keep your distance from store bought ones that have tons of preservatives.  Get in the kitchen and use this appetizing recipe.  Also hummus [with garbanzo beans] is really tasty and easy to make.

Here is my finished product, its kind of resembles black pudding.  But its not always about "looks" right?

Another of my favorite protein rich foods are sweet potatoes.  In my opinion they are best served as fries.  All you need is a small amount of olive/vegetable oil, sea salt, black pepper, sweet potatoes(obviously), and an oven.

Tonight I went to see August: Osage County by Tracy Letts.  It was done by the wonderful and talented community theatre.  I wish I could have been cast in the production, but I wasn't really old enough to play any of the parts.  I miss being on stage, but hopefully I will be cast in the upcoming show, which is The Sound of Music.
I hope everyone has a delightful weekend. Part of mine will hopefully be spent enjoying New Bern's 300th Anniversary Jubilee Weekend. And the rest will be spent catching up on long forgotten homework

Would you sail across the Atlantic?

I seem to be favoring blue lately.  Must be because it brings out the color of my eyes.  I'll have to switch it up tomorrow, maybe with yellow.  I also have to point out that my hair grows so fast, you can obviously tell from my roots that are poking out.  I had to trim my bangs too, since they were interfering with everyday life.  Anyways...in "exciting" school news: I finished my black and white still life today. I'll be sure to post a photo, so you can tell me what you think. Surprisingly, I'm kind of pleased with it.  I think the last still life I painted was about 7 years ago [in middle school].  Oh man. I feel so old, and my life hasn't even started yet.

Earl who?

So as most of you know, the east coast was hit by hurricane Earl last Thursday.  While he didn't cause any major damage, he certainly churned up the ocean a bit.  I managed to snap a few photos at the beach before the "storm" hit.  And here are a few of my favorites:

**You may have noticed a few smudges in some of the pictures.  Next time I'll remember to clean my lens. Oops. :)

Amazing earrings? Yes please.

Since my only plans today were my painting class and grocery shopping, I felt like being colorful and comfortable.  Also I guess the extra bit of color was due to the fact that we have been painting with only black and white.  But the earrings that I'm wearing are fantastic, I found them at a local thrift store and it was love at first sight.  And a plus is that they are super light, so they don't wear my ears out.

Let's get rich and give everybody nice sweaters and teach them how to dance:

A little side note: If you don't watch the show On the Road with Austin & Santino, you should.

Banana Muffins

Just busy combining the two loves of my life: Bananas and Muffins!

Remember to dot your polkas:
brown t-straps: ross
polka-dot skirt: ae
belt: f21
navy top: ae
neck bow: thrifted
I suppose I felt like wearing a lot of blue and polka dots today.  But the skirt was kind of a bad idea, simply because of how windy it was.  Next time I'll be sure to remember shorts underneath :)  So in lab today, we dissected owl pellets, which are regurgitated rodent bones and fur.  They are super neat, and so tiny.  I'm pretty sure our owl had eaten a mole.  After class I took a trip to the beach with my sister who is in town visiting and my parents. There was a cool breeze which made the humidity less obvious.  I sure hope fall is around the corner, my closet is better suited for cooler weather.

Here are a few photos from our garden, I was surprised to see that the roses are blooming again.  Also the white cat below is the fourth and final cat you will be introduced to on this blog.  I swear my family only owns four, and two of them don't even live with us.  I promise we aren't one of those crazy cat hording families, even though I do love them, and wouldn't mind hording a couple hundred kittens...
