Saturday Night Swing Dancing
This past Saturday I went swing dancing, and there was an incredible turn out of almost 320 people! Turns out these swing dances are totally radioactive and that's the word from the bird! And if you don't believe me I'll give ya a knuckle-sandwich! Okay, I'm officially done using the square terminology of the 1950's. It's just so hard to resist! While the large number of people meant a little less dance floor and a couple stepped on toes it was completely worth it to see that many people out swing dancing. Hopefully this means more than just two dances a month and an upgrade to a larger dance hall. About my outfit; half the fun of going dancing is dressing the part and that means wearing a dress with a full skirt, tossing on some lipstick, and creating a couple pin curls in your hair. I made this dress last summer and its about time it had some action on the dance floor. For the next dance I've been working on a little green number, just in time for St. Patrick's day!

Jillian makes things: Beauty and the Beast edition
It comes as no surprise that my love for all things Disney has only increased since childhood. (I mean I love it so much I decided to live and work there). During one of my many Tumblr browsing sessions I came across an amazing dress made out of Little Mermaid sheets.
I thought to myself, "Genius! I must go thrift shopping immediately in search of Disney sheets!" As luck would have it, I found some lovely Beauty and the Beast curtains featuring Lumiere, Cogsworth, Mrs. Potts and Chip. I decided to make a skirt out of them and here is the finished product and best of all...the skirt has pockets!
And here it is in action! Yes that is me, scaring Belle. She asked if we could trade outfits and I gave her a 100% yes. I would take that beautiful yellow ball gown off her hands and wear it everyday of my life. Sadly, we didn't end up trading. Maybe next time!
The pattern I used was Easy: Stitch 'n Save M5686, and I just adapted it to be a skirt instead of a dress! Hope you enjoy!

Snow in February
The weather has been all over the place these last few days. Two days ago it was in the sixties, yesterday it was snowing, and today is a blusterous 24 degrees. Sadly the snow did not stick, but it was an ever so lovely surprise to wake up to. After living in Florida for five months, it has been hard getting used to the bipolar weather of North Carolina. It is also hard to go from having an amazing theme park in your backyard to attending classes everyday. Working for Disney certainly spoiled me, and it is taking a lot of self control to not drop out of school and ask for my job back. Though I'm pretty sure if I went back before finishing school, I would end up staying there forever (which honestly doesn't sound half bad).

Valentine's Day
I had the perfect Valentine's Day listening to the Greensboro Big Band and watching couples who have been together for 40+ years dance the Foxtrot, the Jitterbug, and the West Coast Swing. To see couples that have been together that long, that still love each other, and can still get out on the dance floor was really refreshing. I don't know what everyone's deal is with Valentine's Day, it's a day centered around celebrating romance, love, and chocolate. What's not to love about February 14th?

Inspired by: Beautiful Hair
Lately I've been in a hair slump, mostly due to the fact that my hair desperately needs to be cut and dyed. For the past couple years I've had pretty short hair, and every attempt to grow it out has ended in me making a rash decision to tell the hair dresser to just cut it all off again. My trips to the hair dresser are always spontaneous and never thought through. I'm just super impatient and hate the in-between stage. Why can't my hair just magically grow 12 inches over night? Maybe if I just bask in the glory of beautiful long hair, my own hair will take a hint. A girl can dream.
