Fish Tacos!

One of my absolute favorite food items to make and eat has to be fish tacos.  They are super easy and super delicious.  I usually use flounder or cod, but tonight I tried it with salmon.  And boy, was it a success!  Along with the salmon I added corn, black beans, shredded cheese, lettuce, sour cream and soy sauce dressing, and a tortilla to hold it all together.  Here is the finished product:

I was watching Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives on the Food Network and the host went to Charlotte, NC to a place called Cabo Fish Taco.  The restaurant looks amazing and my next adventure will hopefully involve a trip there.

Bargaining for the future.

My sister's kitten, Mordecai

A day spent at the local thrift and antique stores and a quick trip to the flea mall.   I love window shopping in antique stores, mostly because I can't really afford anything. My favorite section to look at is usually jewelry but as I'm getting older and thinking about having my own place I'm really enjoying  looking at vintage furniture.  I feel that they don't make furniture or even clothes that holds up as well as they used to.  Today at Second-go-Round and Salvation Army I found these lovely bags:

black carpet-esque
dooney and bourke
vintage embroidered clutch

And I realize I said I was going to stop shopping, but bags don't count..right? Yesterday my mom came home with a lovely surprise for me.  A friend of hers at work, who knows my love for elephants found an antique powder jar for me. Complete with glass elephant on top. I'll probably use it to keep my jewelry in.

When I got home from today's shopping excursion I made dinner with my mom and sister, who is home for the weekend.  We made pasta with four cheese Alfredo and mixed seafood.  For dessert I had been wanting to try this new recipe that I found here. Its a toasted marshmallow milkshake. While it is a complete sugar overload it is also completely delicious.  I recommend anyone with a sweet tooth to try making it, all you need is a blender, vanilla ice cream, yogurt, milk, and of course marshmallows.

The Finished Product. yum

Yellow Sun Dress

Well enough of that. I had a lovely rest of the day playing in Michael's buying supplies for my art class. I can't wait to start painting, hopefully we will tomorrow.

I've also learned that it is impossible to listen to the song "You Can Feel it All Over" by the fantastic Stevie Wonder without feeling jubilant and wanting to dance.

Denim Overalls

Today was another day of school.  This time for American Literature and Painting.  It seems that one will never leave high school.  After taking role and going over the syllabus came awkward introduction activities...my favorite.  I should really being using this community college experience to improve my acting skills.  Too bad I didn't think of that earlier, I could have created a fun character for each class to keep me entertained this semester.

This rain is everlasting, a constant curtain of water blocks my window from the world.  With the rain keeping me inside I've been spending even more time on my computer.  Recently I was informed of Lilith, this amazing woman who was supposedly created at the same time that Adam was.  But because she refused to become subservient to him she left the Garden of Eden and mated with archangel Samael.  She was also believed to have originated as a Mesopotamian storm demon, a bearer of disease, illness, and death. [circa 4000 BC] I absolutely love her story.  She wouldn't have put up with any of that bullshit Mulan taught me, "Men want girls with good taste, calm, obedient, who work fast-paced."  Oh, and she was of course portrayed as a redhead. Love it!
So now time for outfit two...

Overall Goodness:

gold shoes: thrifted
denim overalls: outlet store in fl
gold bracelets: grandmothers
brown cardigan: handmedown

Better be prepared to...be surpised.

Travels to 1980

School starts tomorrow. I don't know if I'm more excited to start school or just the prospect of being closer to finishing school.  Either way, its starting and I'll be ready for it.

So a quick recap of my weekend. Friday was two of my friends double 80's themed birthday party.  Which was "totally radical" and consisted of far too much drinking and massive amounts of dancing.  Mostly by me, because there is nothing I love more than the dances of the 1980s.  We were up till 6:00 in the morning and after a nice snack of hush puppies and a mint-oreo milkshake from the local Cookout I needed to find a place to sleep.  I settled for the back sofa cushions on the living room floor, which later got stolen while I was still sleeping on them. Lame.  So around 7:00 I had the feeling that I was far too old to be sleeping on living room floors and all I really wanted was a hot shower and my delightfully comfy bed.  Next party I think I'll drive myself and drink less.

While this outfit is somewhat ridiculous, I might wear a trimmed down version of it.  I'm really digging the shorts.  Though some people said I looked like an American Apparel ad or a "hipster." I don't even know what a hipster is, nor does my town as it is the size of a thimble. Why can't we all just wear what we like and not be judged for it?

Hair Scarf

Today I hemmed a skirt and dress that was recently left in my possession from my sister.  Then I cleaned the house for guests that are coming in tomorrow. So all-in-all a very exciting day....[please note the sarcasm   Oh, I also watched When Harry Met Sally. Which made me want it to be Christmas time, I miss wearing tights and warm woolly sweaters.

Yesterday was the first time all summer I took photos of one of my outfits.  I hope to turn this blog into a little bit of my daily fashion.  I haven't really had a reason to get dressed at all because my summer days consist of playing in the craft room in my sweat pants and going to the beach.  But since the start of school is just around the corner, it should encourage me to get dressed since actual human beings will be seeing me.  So here is yesterdays outfit:

I'm too young to feel this old.

Current music: Regina Spektor.

So I've had quite the productive day.  Enjoyed a delicious breakfast of banana nut cheerios.  I moved some furniture around in my room and then went off to search around my favorite thrift stores.  Here is a little of what I found.  I hit a $4 bag sale so not everything is pictured.

One thing you should know about me is my love for elephants so imagine my excitement when I found these three pieces:
Look at those amazing shoes, and they fit!  I can't wait to wear them everyday of my life.  I don't know if I'll wear the vest, but I might use the fabric for something else.  And I plan to separate the stuffed ones and maybe put one on a headband or something.  Such luck!  I can't even explain how I feel about elephants.  They are so majestic and intelligent and have an almost dinosaur quality because of their size. I often find myself watching long programs about them on the Discovery channel. Because anything that is unrelated to elephants is irrelephant.

Next on the list is two pairs of jean shorts and another Polaroid camera to add to my collection.

Then I found these two dresses, I'm thinking about cutting the hems off of both of them, but I kind of like the kimono feel of the one dress.  Also a cream colored pleated skirt that makes me feel like a secretary from the 1960s and a pair of pink sneaks and brown gladiator shoes.

Last on my list was a trip to K-mart, this is because I refuse to go to Wal-mart and because I needed hair dye and double stuffed oreos.

So now I'm writing this blog with my Weasley-esque hair and a delicious treat.  Though I do prefer the mint oreos.  [and I do realize that I'm already a redhead who just dyed her hair more red.]

Never Enough Time

Hello Blogspot. I'm Jillian. It's going to take me a little while to get to know you, and be comfortable.  So please forgive any odd posts as I'm still learning all your lovely quirks.  I also have another blog on tumblr, but that is mainly just pictures of thinks I like/find funny. My Tumblr

Currently reading: The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie, The Lovely Bones, and [re-reading] Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Currently listening to:  Billie Holiday

Pictured above is the love of my life, my cat Fig. She will probably end up in a lot of my photos because just look how wonderful she is!  To get the basics over with I'm 20, and in my second year of community college and hopefully my last.  The plan is to transfer to a four year university and graduate with a degree in Fashion Design and Marketing.  But only time will tell, I'm not sure if I enjoy making or wearing clothes more.  And I have a lot of other passions, including acting, singing, photography, painting, and dancing.  I guess I need a degree that will help pay the bills or just a really rich husband.  [only joking...kind of.]

This is where I've been spending most of my time for the past couple weeks.  I've really gotten into painting with watercolors, I love how easily you can manipulate your work even if it has already dried. I'll be posting some of my work soon. But don't get too excited, its pretty basic.

I look forward to working more with you blogspot, thanks for looking out.
